As far East as you can get in Canada, Newfoundland is an island off the coast of Labrador. To the Newfoundlanders Canada is an island off the coast of Newfoundland. Outside the provincial capital, St. John’s, there is very little - trees, moose and small communities. Newfoundland was hit very badly by the demise of the fishing industry. Recently there have been a couple of oil projects but there is little else by way of industry. , in short: The Eastern most province of Canada and the Eastern most point on the North American Continent. When in St John's you're actually closer to Ireland than New York, at least that what it says in the blurb, looking at a map they're probably right.
